Tyler Christopher Brown's work confronts the nature of hegemony, probing how its ascendancy skews aspiration and perception. The works harness disparate parts, such as found objects, detritus, and degenerating patinas. Ultimately, his compositions reveal the seams of invisible power structures by showcasing insinuations and alternative narratives at the heart of inequity and projections value. Brown cross-pollinates intimate personal experience with deeper societal issues, creating counter-mythologies that challenge the underpinnings of power and influence. Each composite's components reflect a conceptual framework that references the complexities and distinctions of class, ethnicity, and representation baked into the United States psyche in and beyond its borders.
